Marshall County Neighborhood Center
Who we are---What we are: Serving 1,000 Clients Per Month
The Neighborhood Center was founded 25 years ago as a not-for-profit social service agency. Its mission is to collect donations of clothing, furniture & appliances, household goods and toys and distribute them to Marshall County residents in need. Over time, various programs were added to the Center's agenda, mostly in collaboration with other programs in the county. Programs today include School supplies for students, Pack a Backpack, Bus Stop Boots, Holiday Food Baskets and others.
The Neighborhood Center is a United Way Agency, and has been since its inception. The United Way provides a "floor to stand on" by funding the basic operating costs of the Center. Without the United Way, the Center could not exist.
A volunteer Board of Directors guides the Center's programs and operations. The only compensation paid is to an Executive Director. The Director supervises a staff of volunteers to accomplish day-to-day business such as sorting clothes, assisting clients, picking up and delivering furniture, and maintaining the facility.
The Neighborhood Center maintains a food pantry on an ongoing basis. In November of 2008 the food pantry served 1185. At the Holiday Season, we provide food baskets to needy qualifying families. We create three different sized baskets to meet the needs of families of all sizes. We screen all applicants to determine need. Last year we distributed about 240 baskets at Thanksgiving 321 at Christmas. 541 kids received toys this year. The Christmas baskets also include toys, hats, and mittens.
We believe that to be truly successful, charity must also foster independence. We invite you to support us in our mission.
